In a nutshell

GLOBAL NOIZE is an exciting musical project created by Grammy Award winning producer and keyboardist extraordinaire JASON MILES and turntable wizard DJ LOGIC. Press Release

An intoxicating mix of electronic, funk, jazz, and world music, brought together by Turntable Master DJ Logic and Grammy Winning Jason Miles, featuring Singer Falu, Saxophonist Jay Rodriquez, Drummer Adam Deitch, Bassist George Porter Jr, and more!

The Birth of Global Noize

When Jason Miles moved to New York City in 1974, he was a man on a mission. Like many impressionable jazz musicians, playing with immortal trumpeter Miles Davis was viewed as the end-all be-all. He finally got his wish, recording with Davis from '85 to '91. The experience instilled the keyboardist/composer with an adventurous spirit, which continues to influence every step of his musical path. It also set a nearly unattainable standard for all ensuing projects.

In 2007, he got a call to play with turntablist DJ Logic and sparks flew from the get-go. "I left that night and I thought this thing was really," Miles recalls, adding, "really cool. I said, 'This is me.' I was talking to a friend and I told him I had a real vibe. Almost like a 'Global Noize vibe.' My wife said, 'You know the name of the project.' "

Miles saw the music as a vehicle that would convey the spontaneity of jazz in a universal way. He and Logic gathered other musicians and recorded an album at the end of 2007.

The two are a natural pairing, bridging the gap between old school and new school. Miles has long been an innovator, using synthesizers and effects in the studio but avoiding technology onstage as much as possible. Logic's organic approach to the turntables and improvisational adaptability are a big reason why he fits into a larger band's scheme. "He really ties everything together and understands how to build up the beats," says Miles.

Global Noize’s sound is a unique blend of groove, world, jazz and funk which was showcased on their debut CD 'Global Noize' (released on Shanachie Records), which featured guest artists such as Herb Alpert, John Popper, Karl Denson, M'shell Ndgeocello, Bernie Worrell, Billy Martin, Christian Scott and Cyro Baptista. The CD brought them new fans, a number 1 album and song on 2008 Soul-patrol.com, a top ten album of the year on Jazziz Magazine, and much critical acclaim from the press.

The Groove is what Speaks

After a successful series of shows at venues/festivals such as Jazz Aspen, the New Orleans Jazzfests, the Berks Jazz Festival, the Fox Theater in Boulder, the Highline Ballroom in New York, as well as a host of others – Global Noize just did a West Coast tour, which included halts in San Francisco and Santa Barbara, and reached its climax with a show at the Monterey Jazz Festival.

For their last tour, DJ Logic and Jason Miles were joined by Indian vocal diva, Falu, Groove Collective saxophonist Jay Rodriguez and a new rhythm section consisting of the legendary bass player George Porter Jr. (from New Orleans’ “Funky Meters”, with whom he still plays periodically) and the hot, young drummer Adam Deitch, who is gaining a reputation as one of the best and funkiest drummers on the scene. As usual, the band brought a true sense of musical virtuosity that blended exceptional musicianship along with infectious grooves and great melodies. Need proof? Check out this blog:

Global Noize have just completed their new album titled “A Prayer for the Planet” with another very strong global groove concept that relies on strong melodies, great grooves and a predominant role by their singer, Falu. The goal is to expand the brand in 2011 by playing more festivals and attracting more guest musicians and artists to play with them. In the past, musicians such as Billy Martin, Fred Wesley, Karl Denson, Christian Scott, Jeff Coffin and Eric Krasno have all joined 'Global Noize' on stage.

This is the perfect moment for Global Noize to bring their music and message of world harmony to people as the world gets smaller and more tied together. The groove is what speaks.
